Professor Flavia Cicuttini has been jointly awarded the 2021 Eric Susman Prize for her outstanding contribution to the knowledge of internal medicine.
Professor Flavia Cicunitti is Head of Rheumatology, Alfred Hospital and Head of Musculoskeletal Unit from the School of Public Health & Preventative Medicine. This award recognises her work in the field of musculoskeletal disease.
The Eric Susman Prize is a prestigious award presented by The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for best contribution to the knowledge of any branch of internal medicine (adult medicine and paediatrics).
Professor Cicuttini’s work in developing new outcome measures for assessing the health of joints resulted in new understanding of the pathogenesis of musculoskeletal diseases, such as osteoarthritis, challenging many old beliefs. This work has led to new approaches to the treatment and prevention of these common conditions.
In May 2022 Professor Cicuttini will be presented with her award at a Gala Dinner at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre where she will also be invited to present her research at the 2022 RACP Congress.
